We have a home!

We have just arranged for an apartment in Ankara--a small, two-bedroom apartment, with separate entrance, in the home of an Ankara University statistics professor. He and his wife live with their two teenage sons. So far, they sound very hospitable (in keeping, I think, with the Turkish tradition of extraordinary hospitality toward visitors) and friendly, and have offered to help us in many ways. At the moment the apartment is unfurnished, but we've been promised furniture by the time we arrive. Hooray! I can't imagine shopping for furniture for nine months--with no car! Anyway, the apartment is near the University (about 2 km?), and is passed by mini buses that will take us to campus and/or to the center of Ankara, which is, I believe, about 10 miles away. (Not sure about the latter distance, but I will know that soon enough). We will be located near the Hacettepe forest where, I believe, we hiked 15 years ago! This time, I'll take photos and get some of them posted.

Next stop: deciding on a departure date and booking a flight. Stay tuned.
